Stay Happy and Healthy
How many of you have experienced the benefits of essential oils? I admit for years I’d heard of others using them and of course I assumed that there were benefits but I hadn’t really experienced anything personally. Now, after my experiences over the last year or so I have to admit they do feel pretty essential in my house.
Right now as the whole world should be focusing on health and wellness, I thought it would be a good time for me to share a bit of my own health and wellness journey. Before a few years ago I felt like I wasn’t following through on some of my self care goals and thinking I was just too busy! After taking a good look at myself I realized that the only person who was getting in the way of any of that was myself because in reality I had the time – I just needed to make it work. I wanted to learn about various health and wellness routines, products and methods for myself and my family so I decided to make that my goal.
I started to educate and arm myself with what I felt would be most beneficial. Along with a few other things, I wanted to learn more about essential oils – the essence of a plant that is distilled and created to bring the power of nature into our homes. As I was just dabbling here and there and admittedly not really knowing what the big deal was with essential oils (other than they made my house smell fantastic) I met up with an old friend at a local yoga festival who was selling essential oils and sharing her experiences with others. This felt like an opportunity for me to actually start to learn, buy some products and get started. I purchased a start up package with some of the main household basic oils and I haven’t looked back. Gradually, I’ve become more familiar of the many benefits and have made oils at home my ‘GO TO’ for many of our needs. Anywhere from the benefits of peppermint – energizing, beneficial for headaches, digestion, allergies, and a great way to freshen breath and add some great flavour in the kitchen… to the benefits of clementine – elevating mood and positive emotions, assisting in anxiety and cleansing the air. Now, I have to say that I have experienced these benefits personally.
- Allergy season, turn on the diffuser – lavender, eucalyptus, lemon and peppermint – filling the air with a very delicious smell but also the benefits of lavender that will work like a natural antihistamine, has strong anti-inflammatory properties that will relieve most allergic reactions, and the strong, fresh minty peppermint that will start to open up the airways.
- Headaches? Try some peppermint oil before loading up on Tylenol… peppermint oil in a bottle with a roller and it feels amazing when being rolled on temples, back of neck or shoulders or even chest (DO NOT get in your eye… trust me I know from personal experience). Peppermint having the ability to relax muscles and ease pain – give it a shot
- Blends that have immune supporting properties and and can help with cleansing and purifying the air; orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary
- For a restful sleep add a few drops of lavender to the diffuser at night for a calming effect and easing tension, for the most part we sleep like babies at our house.
I must say that I’ve been loving to learn and experiment, anywhere from trying different oils in diffusers, topically or in my morning water or various recipes, making candles with a few different oils to clean the air or to create a mood, using specific blends to disinfect household surfaces, creating a room spray to assist in freshening the air, making a natural bug repellent, a natural hand sanitizer and various skin care products… it’s nice to know that by using these products I’m making healthy choices for myself and my family, every little bit counts in my mind.
So, please reach out if you are interested in learning more, want to ask me questions or if you’ve decided that it’s time to add a health and wellness goal to your to do list. I would be happy to share any knowledge and experience I have and help you to learn how to get started and feel supported along the way. I think we all need to feel comfortable to ask questions because if we don’t then we just won’t learn and I promise this stuff is worth learning.
Make health and wellness a priority and take care of yourself because you are worth it
